UMR/UBP 1095 – Genetics Diversity Ecophysiology of Cereals (GDEC), Clermont-Ferrand

GDEC has acquired a strong experience in genomics, quantitative genetics and plant breeding. It is composed of 90 permanent staff with scientists from INRA, CNRS and University Clermont-Auvergne. The unit maintains and characterizes cereal genetic resources at the French level. It developed strong skills in phenotyping with ecophysiologists of abiotic stresses on wheat. It already hosts i) a platform for the development of genetic transformation tools for functional validation and a genotyping platform (GentyAne). Finally, the close experimental unit PHACC hosts an experimental farm that occupies an area of 111 ha of which about 50 ha are devoted each year to field experiments. GDEC has coordinated 12 large research projects (ANR, FSOV, FP6) and participated to 25 others between 2006 and 2010. The unit coordinates the IA project Breedwheat that groups 26 partners including 9 private breeders.

Contribution to the project

Develop a platform and new methods enabling to perform fine crop physiology and quantitative genetics studies under semi-controlled environmental conditions allowing climate change scenarios simulation (CO2 concentration, water and N availability).
