The CAPTE Workshop (https://www.capte-workshop.com/) was held from 11 to 13 May 2022 in Avignon (France).

It was attended by about 100 people in person, and between 100 and 250 people remotely, the event being broadcast in real time on the web. The latest advances in high-throughput phenotyping in the field were presented and discussed during 4 sessions dedicated to (1) structural and morphological traits, (2) sanitary, biochemical and physiological traits, (3) functional traits or traits derived from multi-temporal observations, (4) and various use cases. Most of the participants came from France, but about a third came from various European countries (Spain, England, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, etc.), as well as from Japan and Australia. These two days of exchange made possible to (1) confirm the predominant role played by artificial intelligence techniques in extracting relevant information on the state of plants from the available 2D or 3D imagery, (2) reinforce the interest of very high spatial resolution and 3D description, (3) show the complementarity between phenotyping in the field and in controlled environment, (4) underline the interest of combining process models with phenotyping observations, (5) present the potential of satellite imagery for monitoring trial networks, (6) and finally to illustrate the possibilities of applying methods developed on large cuttings to other species, in particular woody species. However, certain aspects were only slightly addressed, in particular the development of phenotyping methods in the framework of agroecology, and the use of multi-sensor observations.

The CAPTE workshop ended on 13^th June with a visit to the Arvalis experimental station in Gréoux les Bains (France) where field phenotyping tools such as phenomobile, drone, LITERAL system and the root endoscope were presented. The participants seemed very happy to meet again to discuss this subject in person, after two years marked by sanitary restrictions.
